[ The day of the exploration has finally arrived. Moogle-airships have collected everyone who signed up. There is a lot of chatter and noise amongst the moogles, it is easy to see that they are nervous.

They’ve landed the airship on top of the Deep Sea Research Centre, and it is a long, long way down to the heart of the place. No worries, they have the heroes to protect them. ]

"Come along, kupo, time to make a start!"

"I hope no monsters eat us, kupo~"

[ Deep within the Research Centre, rabid hybrid Malboros roam. More violent and vile than the ones that roamed the lands of Gaia not so long ago. ]

[ OOC: This is the official Deep Sea Research Centre exploration thread. Don’t worry if you didn’t sign up for it in game, feel free to jump in anyway. The more the merrier. Have fun! And sorry for the delay! ]

Sabin had of course signed up for the mission the first moment he could, after hearing about it. The thrill of adventure, the challenge of a strong enemy. Who could ignore such things? Definitely not the martial artist, who at one point had helped save the world.

He'd spent pretty much all of his time on the airship, on the main deck. Holding onto a guard rail, so that he could look out and appreciate the view that was laid out before him. The last time he had flown on an airship, it had been Setzer's, and they spent more time scrambling around trying to stay alive, than they ever did appreciating the view. Now, the situation was much the same. Yet at the same time, different. Funny how things seemed to come full circle. If it wasn't the Empire, then it was something else. Would there always be something else? A reason for heroes to exist?

The thought was as depressing, as it was uplifting. For a long time, he'd had the notion that he was only useful in the sense of combat. He had trained for it most of his life. To protect his brother, to protect Figaro. He would bloody his hands, so others didn't have to. If there was nothing to protect, then he would have little reason for being...Yet, to think that evil would constantly threaten those he loved...It seemed that he couldn't win either way.

His musing thoughts were scattered to the winds, as the Airship landed on top of the research centre. Returning to himself with a gentle sigh, he gripped the rail tightly, and threw his weight over the side of the airship, leaping onto the ground below him.

"Everything'll be fine." He spoke in that firm, confident voice that marked him as both a trained warrior, and an educated prince. Sabin stood to his full, and impressive height, his hands reaching behind him to grip the claws that he kept hanging from his belt. He had brought his weapons this time, because he could still remember the sting of the Malboro's attack the last time he had fought them.

Secure in the knowledge that his weapons were still with him, he cast those blue eyes about curiously, wondering who else had decided to risk life, and limb to eradicate this threat.

The Deep Sea Research Centre... It brought back a lot of memories for Squall, and none of them particularly pleasant. His blood ran cold at the thought of the beasts roaming freely within. How had things changed in the years since he'd last been here? It was hard to imagine just what hell awaited them.

He had spent most of the journey sharpening, oiling and cleaning his gunblade and ensuring his magicks were well stocked. They'd probably need all the help they could get down there.

The moogles seemed to favour Sabin's positive attitude over Squall's silent, less positive aura. "The sooner we get down there, the sooner we can get out." The less time spent in the cesspit of evil, the better.

Sabin couldn't help but chuckle at Squall's comment, even as his brows furrowed in thought. Was this the only other one who had come? He hadn't really paid attention to who might have boarded the ship before hand, simply figuring that there would be a goodly number of folks who would answer the call. After all, this world was chalk full of heroes, right?

Actually, now that he thought about it...He didn't see Zack. That just raised more questions. The dark haired warrior had shown no restraint when fighting with him to destroy the Malboro's in town, in fact he seemed just as eager as Sabin in his own way to continue the fight. So if that was the case, why wasn't he here?

The moments passed, and in the end he simply grunted concomitantly, and pushed the thoughts aside. No use crying over spilt milk. They would make do with what they had, and that was that. " It almost sounds like you don't look forward to the challenge that lays ahead...under us?" Sabin grinned in that big-bear manner as he spoke, shuffling over towards Squall to offer the leather clad man his hand, and a formal greeting. "Name's Sabin. I don't think I've ever seen you around before." An invitation for a name? Well, it'd be nice if he got one.

Squall shook the man's hand, giving a grunt of his. "Squall. Leonhart. Commander of Balamb Garden." Yay for titles.

He brushed a hand through his hair, sweeping the bangs out of his eyes. "Deep Sea Research Centre is a living hell. Been down there once before. It's not pretty."

He checked his weapon again. He gritted his teeth. Nervous? A little.

I suck at this don't I? *Sad face*

Sabin's lips split into a dangerous grin. There was something about this kind of danger that just brought out the best in people. Or the worst. It was interchangeable for some people. "Nice to meet'cha Squall. I get the feeling we'll get to know each other real well in the next little bit." It was the same way he'd gotten to know Zack really. No better place to know a man's heart than on the field of battle.

"We'll be fine if we watch each other's backs. It takes a truly strong person, to know when they need help." Sabin released Squall's hand as he spoke, casting around with those blue eyes. "Speaking of help, are we the only two people here?" He didn't sound nervous when he asked the question, just curious. Obviously Sabin felt that if they were alone, it was more than enough to handle the situation. However, he was never one to deny someone an invitation to an all out brawl like this.

"Looks that way... Disappointing really. At times like this you'd expect more people to band together." Squall shrugged his shoulders. "Can't grumble, I suppose. Two of us should be enough."

One of the moogles piped up. "You have us too! We can fight."

Squall wasn't so convinced. What could a tiny fluffball do against rabid, dangerous Malboro hybrids? Maybe they could throw the moogles at them and leg it if things went wrong.

Al-Cid had decided on a whim that the place where he was needed most would be the place where, it seemed, the Malboros were coming from. All the data said the biggest concentration of the things were in the Deep Sea Research Center, so, flying his airship into a low range around the thing, he let it idly, lazily circle the place. Throwing down the rope ladder, the young Rozarrian scrambled nimbly down, and dropped onto the roughly hewn entryway, wondering if it was stone, or if it was metal so long corroded and added to by the ocean debris that it just appeared that way..

Regardless, he readied his magicks and his weapons, fire spells and a brace of fire-magicite imbued pistols and a slender thrusting sword on his hip, nodding to himself. He was sure he could handle this, and even if he didn't come back out, handling the source of the things would let the numbers eventually thin out from the other heroes. People like him, Agents, operated in the shadows when it truly counted, and let people like Squall and Quistis shine their brightest.
