She'd left him. It was hard to believe, really. Never in a million years had anyone imagined that, one day, she'd just up and go, but she had. There was never any question in her mind, not since that moment of clarity. How could she have reconsidered after realizing that everything was wrong?
She had thought that her days of wandering were over. Sin had been defeated, everyone had gone their separate ways. Her job, after it was all said and done, was to take care of Wakka; he was far more concerned about taking care of Besaid to actually take care of himself. It had been the same as always, in the beginning. They'd been happy enough...but happy enough just wasn't enough. There was no contentment, no sense of completion or wholeness. She hadn't had family from a very young age and, while she and Wakka, Yuna and Chappu had all grown up together, it wasn't the same. She just hadn't been able to settle down. She was a mage and, more importantly, a guardian. She had undertaken three pilgrimages and one had been completed. To travel was in her blood now and it would never wash out.
In hindsight, a note may have been a little too impersonal. Had she actually faced Wakka, though, she knew that he never would have let her go. She'd imagined the conversation in its entirety. Lulu, you talkin' crazy, yeah? You can't just go. What will you do? If he'd asked, she wouldn't have had an answer and that wouldn't have been good enough. But what was done was done. She would not return now, not without trying life on her own, first.
Retracing the path of her three pilgrimages, Lulu had ended up in Luca. It was as good a place as any to wait and wonder. Her plan was to hang around, keep her ears and eyes open. Surely a party of some fashion, be it a pilgrimage or other sort, would pass through and she would offer her services. She was powerful, experienced. People would be stupid to pass up such skilled sorcery.
Stationed on one of the balconies in Luca that overlooked the square, Lulu inhaled deeply. It was beautiful. Though Besaid was nice, she'd always loved the atmosphere of the large and bustling city. This was where she'd really taken an interest in Blitzball. The sea was glittering in the sunlight and people were going about their daily lives. Indeed, they looked happy enough. Part of her wished she could be more like them. Lifting her hand to shield her eyes from the sun's glare, she leaned on the railing, a small smile playing at the corner of her lips.
"Some days," she murmured, "it feels like the sun might shine forever."
