Awkward.

That was truly the best way to describe how the princess felt after her little "date" with Firion. True, it was innocent enough since all they did was talk about themselves and some things they liked, their dreams, etc. Still, she couldn't help but feel a bit bad for leaving him so suddenly. She didn't much like being rude. On the other hand, the only reason she attended the ball in the first place was to get a breather. The events in Esthar still weighed heavily on her mind.

She didn't even give much thought as to whether or not Glenn would still be occupying her room while she was away. To be truthful, she had actually forgotten he might be in the inn room.

Garnet opened the door, stepped inside, shut and locked the door behind her, and let out a deep sigh. She couldn't understand why, but she felt strange. Her stomach was bunching itself into knots as hard as bricks. She groaned softly and looked down at herself, noting she was still dressed so formally. She wondered if her mother had become well enough to reveal she still lived. Suddenly she found herself wishing she were back in Alexandria with Brahne , Beatrice, Steiner...with everyone.

'Well, almost everyone,' she thought. The voice in her mind was a bit bitter as she recalled Zidane. She hadn't seen him in so long, there were times she even wondered if he cared about her anymore. During those times, she would chastise herself for thinking that and say he did care, but more and more often she found that "voice of reason" saying everything was fine was just wishful thinking. Garnet had wished for him to stay with her and help her rule, but trying to tame a free soul was backbreaking work indeed. Worse still, she found herself not blaming him at all.

"I need tea, and quickly."
