She was either fishing for an apology or a confrontation, neither of which was about to happen; the former simply wouldn't do, and as for the latter, well, he was busy. She'd probably be more offended if he didn't rise to the bait anyway. And so he smiled, the expression one of polite incomprehension, and stepped forward when she did to try and shoo her out.
"You should return to your seat. The show starts in five minutes."
He spoke as if he, himself, had every right to be backstage. He certainly looked like he did as well. If one of tonight's actors was the prat from the festival, well, wouldn't that just be rotten luck!
