When along comes a Selphie, who has been watching Squall for a while from a distance, just giggling into her hands. Why Squall had himself a chocobo was anyone's guess - it was highly amusing that he'd form such an attachment to one. If it could be called that.

Eventually she approached, lifting a hand in a wave and whistling softly in greeting to the chocobo.

"Having fun?"

Oh great. Just what Squall needed. Selphie laughing at him. Could his day get much worse? "Do I look like I'm having fun? This stupid bird won't do anything it's supposed to - easy to tame? Who are they kidding?"

The chocobo pecked at Squall, trying to relieve him of the the greens he had in his pocket, causing a disguntled squeak from the teen.

"I swear - it's going in the stew pot soon!"

"Well...it probably helps if you're nice to it in the first place. It's probably just being stubborn!"

Again, she giggled softly at the situation - because she certainly understood very well about stubbornness.

"Why don't you try petting him, and feeding him? He could be hungry. And he's *not* for eating, Squall." Being particularly firm on that last bit.

Leon's journey has brought him to some plains, a town in the distance. His day hadn't been uneventful, having killed off some weak monsters, cutting away the meat that now lay inside his bag, hanging from his waist. His sword was drawn, the dark blade shining in the light of the sun as he heard a loud squawk as he turned his head to spot a Chocobo and what seemed to be two people dressed in peasant's clothing.

"Excuse me, are you having any trouble with your beast?"

"First of all, Selph, he is a she, and second of all, I have been nice to it and it won't listen to me... and if it pecks me again I'm gonna let it go in the Training Centre and let a T-Rexsaur eat it!"

Squall gave a huff. This whole thing was turning into a bit of a nightmare. He lifted his head when the other man spoke, jaw clicking. "No, we're fine," he lied. Asking for help wasn't something he was good at.

Selphie giggled and shook her head at the T-Rex comment. No way would she be letting that happen.

So when the other man came close, Selphie shouted out, "Yes, please!" at exactly the same time than Squall declined. She followed this with an enthusiastic nod of the head.

"He really, really needs help."

Leon walked over to the group after the enthusiastic yes from the younger girl. Giving her a curt nod, he glanced at the Chocobo, and then back at the man. "Hmm...did you try being nice to her?" he asked, he admittedly didn't know much about animals but Guy was very vocal about how to take care of them. Well at least as vocal as you can get when your main language was Beaver.

Why did everyone think he'd been mean to the feathered creature? He'd been nothing but nice to it - well, up until a short while ago since he was beginning to lose his patience with it.

Squall sighed. "Yes, I've been nice to her; even fed her some of these stupid greens, she just won't listen to me or do anything I want her to."

Selphie smiled, moving round to stroke the chocobo. She keeps stroking along its neck and back, whistling to her softly, ready and waiting to see if this guy could help out Squall out.

Leon rubbed his eyes, sleep wasn't the best when you had traveled for months. He leaned forward, making eye contact with the chocobo. "....So what's the problem?" he asked, wondering for a brief second if he looked stupid. Rising back to his full height, he shrugged. "Personally I'm not sure, perhaps she's hungry or you smell funny" he gestured at his clothing. "I mean you do dress oddly" Crossing his arms, his face grew serious. "No armor at all, if you wore some, you wouldn't get injured" he said, tapping the bridge of his nose to indicate he was referring to the scar that split the face of the boy like some twisted patchwork dummy

Squall's jaw tightened. Seriously, what gave a complete stranger the right to come over and insult him and his clothing?! There was nothing wrong with the way he dressed - and he did not smell! "Hey, there is nothing wrong with the way I dress." Aside from having far too many belts and pants that were far too tight.

Still, he ran a finger absently along his scar. It never healed, no matter how many times his was cured or used potions, it always remained, a constant reminder of his battle with Seifer.

Selphie took a step back, biting her lip softly and resisting the urge to add to the conversation. Sure, it was always fun seeing someone bugging Squall, but this dude was kind of rude and...it wasn't so nice to mention the scar.

"So...you gonna help him with his chocobo or what?"

Leon nodded in confirmation after the young girl mentioned the Chocobo, "Aye...sorry bout that, most people in my land don't wear clothes such as that..." glancing back at the man, he grinned wryly. "and we usually only wear one belt" looking at the chocobo, he rubbed his chin as he glanced at the creatures that were traveling around a bit away from them, "Hmm, I'm not entirely sure but she may be scared..."

There was nothing wrong with Squall's belts! They were... useful. For ...stuff. And comfy. Squall pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a steady sigh. And people wondered why he wasn't a people person.

"Scared? What of?" There were no real threats about, just him, Selphie, the chocobo and the newcomer.

Selphie turned to Squall and held up a silencing hand, "Maybe, if you spoke a little bit quieter, it might help. I mean, you can be kinda scary sometimes, Squall!"

Though she giggled at her comment, meaning it all in good humour.

"Have you tried singing to it?"

Leon nodded at the young girl "Good idea, Miss....Sorry, I didn't catch either of your names" before moving in close to the chocobo, wrinkling his nose at the signature pungent scent. "Hey girl, can you settle down a bit so your owner can ride you?" the chocobo responded with a loud KWEH, causing Leon to jump back in surpass. "Well that's your problem right there, Chocobos go Cooc Cooc, not Kweh"

Squall frowned. "I'm Squall, this is Selphie," he murmured, pointing at the spunky girl. "And no, I haven't tried singing to it and I'm not going to sing to it..."

He arched a brow at Leon's statement. "Every chocobo I've met says 'kweh' or the occasional 'wark' sounds pretty normal to me."

Selphie took a step back, letting Leon get closer. But suddenly she's not so sure and she put a hand firmly on her hip, raising a brow at that comment. Who even was this guy?

"Cooc cooc? Since when was that a chocobo thing to say?"

It was now Leon's turn to be the one confused at their er...confusion. "All chocobos where I'm from say cooc cocoa....hmm, must be a different type" Leon decided before glancing at Selphie. "Miss Selphie may have a point there, course perhaps she would be the best choice for that, I'm a bit tone-deaf'

The chocobo stomped it's feet, tugging at it's reins. Squall held on firmly, all but scowling at the poor feathered fiend. "Kay, stop pulling!" He huffed, reached into his pocket for another green and held it out to the bird, who ate it happily.

He glanced at Leon again. "'Where you're from'? Where abouts is that?" Squall was always interested in learning about new places. The school boy swot in him glee'd in delight.

Selphie blinked at Leon, purely because he'd called her 'Miss'. Still, she let Squall revel in whatever useless knowledge he was gonna come up with while she stood in front of the eating chocobo, stroking softly at its neck.

Leon rubbed the back of his head, scratching at an imaginary itch as he looked distant. "I live...lived in Fynn...but I can't go back, not after what happened." He sighed as he crossed his arms. They seemed so peaceful here, they probaly never had to deal with somebody destroying their homes, killing their parents.....probaly never betrayed their friends to enact a foolish plan

"You can always go back." Squall firmly believed that. After all, he'd spent long enough running from his own problems, yet everything had worked out in the end. Balamb, Garden, Hollow Bastion. All of it. He had carried burden and responsibility on his shoulders for so long. But in the end you could only run so far.

"Nothing is ever as bad as it seems. Besides, running just wears you out eventually."

Selphie just stood by and nodded her head, completely in agreement with Squall. After all, they'd all had their fair share of running around, running to things, running from things.

"The captain's right!"

Leon grunted, idealistic fools, they couldn't understand his reasons "You guys wouldn't understand, I...I did things I shouldn't of done" Leon's eyes grew distant as he turned away "I'm sorry I couldn't help you with your pet...." he started his journey away from the two
