Who: Genesis and Lightning
What: Talking
Where: ShinRa HQ; their room
When: A while after she met Zack
Rating: PG-13
The young girl sat on her bed, eyes on a book in her hands. She wore nothing but a night gown and, although the window was open, she wasn't cold as the chilly night air poured in. The book? It was LOVELESS. She'd decided to give it a look, just to see what it was that both Genesis and Zack found so amazing. So far, she found it pretty but overly flowery and it was making her scrunch her nose in disbelief at it sometimes.
Brushing back her strawberry blonde hair, Lightning let out a slight yawn. She didn't know where Genesis was; she assumed he was in a meeting or training or something... but she was getting bored of this book and her mind had started to wander a little.
Genesis entered the room, not in his normal red coat and black battle gear, but in an actual military uniform adorned with badges of his rank. However, as soon as he entered his quarters, he tore his uniform off, mumbling something about it being overly stiff and uncomfortable, and trudged into his bathroom. He would later come out in his lounge-wear, consisting of sleeping pants and a long, white T-shirt, with a hole ripped open in the back to acommodate his wing.
He would hop up on the bed next to Lightning, crossing his legs as he placed his hand on the back of her leg. "You seem... stressed today." he said, knowing that it sounded odd coming from someone who obviously had a rough day training new recruits to SOLDIER. "Something up?" he asked, not being able to see which book she was reading from this angle. He assumed it was some dumb romance novel, but he didn't say that out loud for obvious reasons.
The teen sighed contently to his touch, smiling just slightly. "I'm fine. I just... I had an eventful day, is all." Closing the book and tossing it on the sheets, she rested her hand over his briefly before brushing back her bangs. "How was your day, SOLDIER?" Lightning tilted her head, eyes falling partially on that wing she so adored. If anything, she had the feeling she could sit for hours just stroking her slender fingers through the black feathers.
Tearing her gaze away, she rubbed the back of her neck, making a slight noise to it as she did. Maybe she was a little tense. She had marks on her elbows and knees from her fight with Zack... she even had the tiniest burns on her left hand, a small amoutn of Mage Burn had set in from the lightning spells she had cast on the black-haired man.
Genesis noted the burns on her as soon as he had a better view, from her revealing outfit. He raised an eyebrow; why didn't she drink a potion or two yet to speed up the healing process? "Hey... did you go to the simulation room or something? Why do you look so... beat up?" Genesis inquired, a note of concern in his voice. He didn't have his Cure Materia on him; it was on his sword, which was propped up against the wall. He resisted the urge to quote LOVELESS this time, as he knew that annoyed her a little.
"Need me to Cure you?" he continued removing his hand, and reaching for the television's remote.
"It's fine... I'm fine..." She couldn't think of any other word. If she did, something bad would come out and she was trying so hard to keep her head clear. "I had a bit of training... I got in a street fight." She glanced to the remote, before lifting her eyes to the television screen.
Lightning rested against him, sighing just lightly. "I've been reading LOVELESS." She murmured this, eyes closing softly. She wasn't sure what she made of it yet. It was pleasant but she wasn't much of a follower of art. She could tell it was well written but, then again, she thought most poetry was well written. She had no training or experience to compare it to.
A street fight? No way. There couldn't be a street thug who could do this much damage to someone as skilled as Lightning. "... Okay." he relented, even though his face showed how little he believed her. But, if it was someone here who hurt her, Genesis was going to kill the bastard.
But still, that leaves the question on who it would have been. Lightning was an exceptionally skilled fighter, almost as good as Genesis himself. To even land a hit on her would be something for a common soldier to brag about, and as far as Genesis knew, he was the only higher-tier SOLDIER First Class in the entire Shin-Ra army. And there was no way anything less would do this much damage to her.
Genesis said nothing more. He simply leaned against the head-board of his bed, while the news began talking about Shin-Ra looking to expand into something other than Mako energy.
"Mm. I met a man..." She sighed slightly, shifting to lay beside him, resting her head on his thigh. She was in need of something, but she wasn't sure what. She felt listless and tired but sleep had already been and gone before Genesis had came back.
Lightning looked at her own hand, her right one, pressing her thumb and index finger together, frowning in thought as the gravitational pull between the digits strengthened and weakened continuously. What was she supposed to do now? Her head was all over the place.
"Genesis... where do you see yourself in... say... ten years?" It was such an out there question but she wanted to know that she wasn't stuck being a stay at home wife for the rest of her damn life.
She met a man... oh no. Was he losing her? "A man...?" he asked, not bothering to finish his sentence. As she laid her head in his lap, he placed his hand over her head, his thumb stroking the area behind her ear.
Her questions struck him as odd. "Retired, hopefully... but I fear that might not be any time soon, not even in ten years, if the world continues to deteriorate... and if these "Heartless" are still around." he hoped that would suffice, but he still kept thinking about what she said. She met a man, and she was so distant today.
Lightning almost purred to the touches she received, eyes slipping closed and her hand resting on his knee. "A man." She repeated the words only to herself if anything. "He was... injured. I know you told me not to go in the Slums alone... but... I got bored." Lightning ran her hand over his knee more. "But yeah, he was injured and I Cured him. As thanks, he bought me lunch." Shifting slightly, she hummed in thought.
"He made me laugh; he was weird and had such a strange accent. He's definitely a country guy." Biting her lip, she frowned lightly, contemplating telling Genesis the man's name.
Genesis raised his eyebrow. A weird accent? No... it couldn't be him, there are plenty of other people from Gaia with yokel accents. When she returned his affection, it seemed more obvious that he wasn't losing her. With her head so close to his lap, he almost became aroused, but Genesis' self control staved off the arousal. As he stroked her face some more, the news shifted to a recent press release given out by Rufus' PR department. Something about cutting down on Mako power, using it only for creating more materia. Apparently the R&D department had another fuel source it was looking at, but wouldn't comment any more on it at this time.
"Hey... Lightning?" he asked, pulling her closer to him. "Is Midgar better than Cocoon? At least, in your opinion?"
At that, she turned to lay looking up at him, frowning slightly. "Genesis... anywhere is better than Cocoon. The place is a floating city that is just... Hell." Shaking her head a little, she shifted to sit up, pressing her lips to his in a quick kiss. "But Midgar is a lot better. It might not be as... grand... but it has a certain breath-taking quality."
Stroking her fingers over his cheek she smiled. "Besides; you're here." With a smile, she shifted to lay down again. "And my new sparring partner."
Genesis smiled and lightly blushed at this. Well... that was good enough for him. Kissing her back, as she lay down again, he pulled her into him, and closed his eyes. "Well... okay." he said. He resisted the urge to quote LOVELESS again, saying a few of his mantras in his head, enjoying the feeling of Lightning against himself. Her shapely body felt absolutely heavenly on his, and it was all he could do not to ruin the moment by becoming aroused. His hand stroked her back, as the stress from training the new recruits seemingly melted away.
"...his hair was weird. Black, and spiked. And long, still." She frowned, chewing on her thumb in thought. Maybe if she just dropped hints, she wouldn't have to tell Genesis who it was exactly. "He had... eyes like yours." Her voice softened and Lightning melted into the way he touched her back. He was always so gentle and comforting. It made her relax.
Genesis physically flinched at this. "It couldn't be..." he said quietly. There was no way... he was dead. Dead and buried, unless maybe someone cloned him, or he was a Heartless. But... could this just be a coincidence? No, there was no one else who could have done as much damage to Lightning... and Zack was a match for Genesis himself, except that he lost to that asshole Sephiroth. Genesis would have said more, except that he didn't care any longer. He was here with Lightning, settled down, and wanted sleep. "I'm glad I met you, Lightning." he said quietly, wrapped his wing around her small body. <
"Mm... I see..." She wriggled closer, smiling softly at that wing. "I... think... um... his name. It was Zack something." Chewing her lip, she ran her fingers over the back of her bruised hand. "Anyway... I think sleep would be good for us. You've been busy all day." She curled her arms around him, not wanting to seem clingy or over-affectionate but still wanting to be close to the man she was sure she was in love with.
It was Zack, the horny little bastard. Genesis could easily see why he wanted to talk to Lightning. Heh... let him try. Genesis nodded in agreement, as he wrapped both of his arms around her waist and her shoulderblades. Sleep soon overcame him.
